Festival Fashion

Hey ya'll... it is almost fall! You know what that means, outdoor festival season. I actually just went to a festival this past weekend. It was super crowded and had lots of good vendors, but it was still hot. Here in the south we only have a few days of fall because it normally stays pretty warm through October. This temperature issue brings me to my current fashion dilemma. How do you wear cute fall fashion to a fall festival when it is 85 degrees? Luckily, I have some tips for ya!

The Look

First you have to decide what type of "look" you are going for with your outfit. I think there are a few basic festival fashion looks. The easiest option is a bohemian flowy dress. But, if you are not a dress person I suggest jorts (aka jean shorts) and a tank with some possible layers such as a jean jacket or a cute vintage flannel from Etsy. Another comfy option would be a two piece set which includes a crop top and flowy pants. At many festivals, especially outdoor music festivals, people tend to dress a bit more daring than usual. If you want to show a little skin you can go with a jean skirt/overalls and something like a tube top underneath. I am a little more on the conservative side when it comes to coverage so instead of a short skirt and crop top option, I tend to go with a bohemian dress or jorts ( I like 3-5 inch) and fun tank top. My favorite casual tank tops are from Chaser.

Accessories

Next, you have to think about accessories. You will definitely want comfy shoes. I try to find booties. I prefer tan as black can look too harsh and shows stains easily. They must have a thick block or wedge heel. If you are really concerned about comfort get a pair of tennis shoes with bright colors and funky soles. (I just ordered some of these Tory Burch ones in the link.) Of course sandals are always an option, but in my opinion the grass and area at festivals can get gross so I'd rather not have exposed feet.

You also need to think about a bag as you will need something to carry your water bottle, ID/cash, maybe a blanket or rain jacket. I suggest a cute small backpack (they have tons of cheap ones at Target) and a cross body purse. You can find cheap and super cute ones on Amazon. My personal favorite cross body purses are from Rebecca Minkoff. I just purchased one with the guitar strap because it doesn't cut into your shoulders all day. Check out this page where you can even buy the straps separately and add to any purse. LOVE!! But really, anything that has a quirky vibe or some type of fringe will work!

Last, but not least... let's talk hair. You can do a baseball cap or funky hat with a pair of dangle fringe earrings (check Etsy or Bauble Bar). For longer hair, a braid or a cute headband adds some bohemian flair. If you really want to accessorize, throw on a leather cuff bracelet, a ton of bangle bracelets and a necklace or choker.

Examples

Now that you have the general idea, I am posting pics below to give you some inspiration. (These are from left to right: Amazon, LuLus, Minnetonka, Chaser, Shein, Rebecca Minkoff, Etsy and the shorts are from Madewell.) My best advice is if you find any piece you love, get it and build on your "look" from there. Most importantly, always remember to have fun with your look because festivals are fun and casual events where you can feel okay to step outside of your fashion comfort zone. Thanks for reading and I'd love to see pictures of your festival outfits if you want to DM me or tag me on instagram. Stay Spunky!
