My Thoughts on Holiday Style

Updated: Jun 22, 2023

If I could describe my thoughts about style for the holidays in one word it would be EXTRA. The holidays are a time to go the extra mile to make everything special. When I think of style for the holidays, I think of rich textures like velvet, furs and glitter/sequin.

Plaid is always a good idea! I like a classic red plaid. A cute plaid blouse can be worn with jeans, black pants, or a black or red skirt. Depending on the colors in the plaid, you might even be able to pull off a nice winter white blazer/coat or white pants with a plaid blouse. If you are not good at putting pieces together go for a plaid dress. Click here for a cute plaid dress I recently found online.

Colors are also really important when considering your holiday style. I always like to go with gold, silver, red or green. If you want to do a little something different you could always wear a black pant or skirt with a kelly green blouse or red accessories such as a belt and shoes. Hot pink and gold is another fun and festive holiday combo. The hot pink dress I linked above would be cute with gold accessories.

Vintage items are also super popular to wear for holiday parties. I believe vintage is especially important during the holidays because these items are often sentimental. The holidays are a special time to wear something that honors a loved one. Many of us have some type of coat, dress or jewelry that was passed down from other females in our family or maybe a gift from a good friend. If you don’t have any family heirlooms to wear go check out a local vintage store or find some online. Etsy is another great resource. You can find tons of fabulous cocktail attire finds at vintage stores for all price points. The cool thing about vintage is that every piece has a story. By wearing the piece to a special occasion you can add to the history of the piece.

My best advice when deciding what to wear to a holiday party is to start in your own closet. Go into your closet and look around. Do you have something in your closet that you have kept because you love it, but you never seem to have an occasion to wear it or it never seems to actually go with anything? Yes! Start with that item! Forget about the fashion rules and forget about worrying if people will judge you. They will judge you no matter what so you might as well wear something fun and interesting! Next, take that random item and find something basic or conservative in your closet to pair it with and if you do not have a staple piece in your closet, go shopping. If you need recommendations on where to find certain pieces feel free to contact me. I am also happy to help if you just want an idea of what to pair with that item in your closet that you think you will never wear, but still love. Stay stylish this holiday season by dressing with a purpose. Thanks for reading and Happy Holidays!
