My Winter Skincare Routine

The holidays are here and while we all want to look our best we all struggle with dry dull winter skin. I am sharing my skincare routine to help give you some ideas on how to brighten up your holiday season.

In August I teamed up with The Skin Clinics East and started using the Zo Medical products by Obaji. The estheticians really impressed me at my consult on their knowledge and how they put together a regimen specific to my needs. Lots of these products have glycolic acid and hydroquinone in them which can make your skin sensitive to sun so they are better to use in the fall and winter months. I love the Zo Skin Health line of products. I can really see a difference in my skin when I use this line and I can see a difference if I go a few days without using them. Not only have they improved the texture of my skin, they have also made my skin tone more even and brighter.

Nighttime routine:

First, I wash my face with the gentle cleanser. This cleanser is a nice gel consistency that foams and it does not burn your eyes or dry your skin. Next, I use my favorite product ever... the Complexion Renewal Pads. These pads make your skin feel squeaky clean and also act as an exfoliant. After that I wait a minute then apply Melamin and mix it with a drop of Refissa, which is a retinoid at 0.05% strength. (Note: If you have never used a retinoid this one seems fine for most people. You will have some peeling, but it has never seemed too strong for my skin, but talk to an esthetician before starting a retinoid.) I wait another minute for that to soak in and I apply the Melamix and also mix it with a drop of the Refissa. Then of course, eye cream. I have tried many eye creams and I really like this Roc brand that you can buy at any local Walgreens, Target or Walmart. It isn't that expensive and is a 5 in 1 cream. It helps dark circles/puffiness and wrinkles!

Morning routine:

In the morning I follow the same steps above, but I do not use any retinoid as my skin is already sensitive to the sun. I also switch out the Melamix for the Exfoliation Accelerator. Then I top it off with the vitamin C serum. The vitamin C serum is great for all skin types. This Cellbone brand is cheaper than many other brands and very effective. Before I leave my house every single day, I use sunscreen as my last product before applying any make-up. I really love the tinted Elta MD brand, but CeraVe also makes a nice sunscreen that you can buy at any Walgreens, Target or CVS.

In addition to these products I try to get facials when I can and a chemical peel a few times a year. Getting these treatments along with using the right products for your face will compliment one another to give you the best results for your dollar. I am also not afraid to do a little botox, but you have to be careful with botox and fillers. You want to look natural and the smart way to use these services are for preventive aging so you can avoid a face lift later in life.

There are so many products and procedures out now so before you get any lasers or fillers please make sure to have a thorough consult. It is important to find an aesthetician that you like and stick with them. I love to try new skincare, but I am also a little afraid sometimes and only go to people I really trust. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. I am trying a new procedure tomorrow that I have never had... micro needling. I have been doing some research and definitely asked questions about what to expect. Feel free to follow along on my instagram stories (will be in SkinCare under highlights) to see the process and results.
