Skincare Update - What I’m doing now.

Updated: Apr 10, 2019

As I age, I realize consistency is everything. If you are able to have nice skin or get your skin in good shape you have to keep up your regimen. One pitfall I have is that I will get facials, use products religiously for a few months, then I have trouble staying on track because life gets busy. Traveling is my downfall. Even if I bring my products to use I often get so tired when I travel that I may not follow the same routine I do at home. Traveling is also harsh on your skin as you are in different climates and stale airplane air is the worst!

Recently, after turning 40 and traveling I noticed my skin needed a little TLC. I have been using products that helped me get rid of melasma for a long time and I knew the rule is that you are only supposed to use these for a limited period, so it was time to switch. I am still using the Zo Skincare line, but now I have been switched to some skin brightening products. I also noticed that I was starting to get some sagging in my jaws. Hello middle age! 😳

I went to The Skin Clinics and asked for an opinion. The Skin Clinics is my go-to for anything skincare related. When I was younger I hopped around from place to place. As I age I realize it is important to find a good skincare spa and stay with the same place. When you go to the same place, the estheticians know you, know your skin history and can discuss with other skincare experts within the same spa to make sure they all work together so you get your best results. If you get facials at one place and lasers at another it can be less beneficial in the long run because the estheticians do not know what each place is doing. For example, if you just had Botox you may not want to do something to your face a couple of days later that could affect the Botox results.

At the Skin Clinics, they knew my history and everything I had recently done such as Microneedling treatments. Tomi, the Director, took one look at me and suggested that I might like the Venus Skin Tightening treatment. It has no down time and is non-evasive. The Venus Skin Tightening machine uses radio frequency and is safe for all skin types. It can even be used with Botox and fillers. Actually, it can compliment Botox and fillers so you get the most bang for your buck. Keep in mind that each procedure does something different and what you need will be different based on the shape of your face and how you are personally aging. Skincare is not a one size fits all. This is why it is so important to go to someone for a consult and do what they recommend after looking at your bone structure.

When getting the Venus treatment they first apply a layer of gel to your face for protection and to help the device glide along your skin. The gel also felt a bit cooling to me. The device heats up and basically feels like a warm massage. Here are my before and after pics from left to right.

You can see from the pictures I am a little red, but that goes away quickly. The Venus is also something good to start in your 40’s as maintenance. You can use it on any part of your body where you have loose sagging skin. If you take care of your skin the right way you will know it is all about preventative measures! Google before and after pics with Venus Skin Tightening and you will be blown away by some of the stomach and double chin results.

Unfortunately, as you age into your late 30’s and 40’s it takes more than a few facials to keep your skin looking good. Unless you are genetically blessed, you have to start doing things like skin tightening, microneedling, lasers, Botox and or Fillers. However, facials are still really important too. I like to think of facials as a deep cleaning. It is something that you need to do on a consistent basis. If your skin isn’t clean and your pores are clogged none of the other treatments you do will make a huge difference. Everything works together. A couple of weeks after my Venus treatment I got a follow-up facial. I told my esthetician Kristy, that I almost felt crazy coming back to The Skin Clinics after I was just there. She made a good point in that having good skin and preventative aging is upkeep. If it were not time consuming or something you have to budget for, then everyone would automatically look ageless. BTW, Kristy gives a great facial as do all the ladies I have seen at The Skin Clinics. If you want to contact them for a free consultation or any specific questions about skin tightening, Botox or fillers they can be reached at 901-474-7636. I LOVE learning about skincare so I message all the ladies on social media all the time and ask them questions! They are all super nice and knowledgeable. Here are their names if you want to give them a follow on instagram. @girlmakesface @dedecowansellers @901beautydotcom @brownieono @kristy.caywood @skinclinicsam @emily_van_epps @tomibeckemeyer (spray tanning) @spraytanning_by_bari and @theskinclinics As always, I hope you learned something new about skincare from my article and thanks for reading!
